Nutritionists agree that having a nutrient-dense weight loss smoothie in your daily diet can lower hunger levels & help promote weight loss.
When you are trying to create a strategy for healthy, lasting weight loss, smoothies can absolutely be an integral part. However, only if you do it right. When done incorrectly, you are left with a slurpable sugar-filled weight-increasing dessert. Just because your smoothie is packed with fruits and vegetables, it doesn’t guarantee it’s low in calories or that it is even good for you. If you aren’t careful about what you put in it, even green smoothies can cause weight gain. Whether it’s store-bought or homemade, your favorite blended beverage might be hiding unwanted calories, sugar, and fat.
Dietitians recommend getting between 20 to 30 grams of protein at each meal to make your smoothie more filling and reduce the sugar content. Protein powders are an excellent way to pack in this essential macronutrient. However, you need to be sure to choose varieties that have little or no sugar and have zero artificial sweeteners. You also want to be aware of the liquid base you choose. You should not use fruit juices. They are loaded with sugar and lack protein and fat. It would be better to go for low-fat milk or an unsweetened, non-dairy milk alternative, like almond, coconut, or cashew. While they won’t have as much protein as cow’s milk, they will have some healthy fats that’ll help curb hunger.
Let’s go over a little about weight loss for a minute. Even a perfect smoothie will not miraculously make you lose weight. There is no one thing that is going to do that in a healthy or sustainable way. If you want to lose weight, you have to be aware of a myriad of other factors that play important roles. To name a few biggies you would need to include sleep, hormones, stress, and other medical issues. Look at weight loss from a holistic point of view. Only then can you hone in on a healthy goal. Only then can you affect meaningful change and see results that are sustainable. Always, you should consult a doctor before making any changes to your diet especially if you have a history of disordered eating.

I had an idea that I wanted to make a smoothie that tasted like a banana crossed with an Almond Joy. This Banana Chocolate Almond Smoothie doesn’t taste exactly like that, but it did turn out delicious and it has all the same flavors. The banana and toasted coconut yogurt give it a bit of a tropical feel and the cocoa powder and almond milk make it taste a little like dessert. This smoothie would make an awesome breakfast or snack, and it’s a great way to get in some fruit and dairy all at once!

5. Apple Pie Smoothie
– 6 PointsPlus
Apple Pie Smoothies packed with fresh apples, yogurt, walnuts, almond milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and a touch of banana for sweetness are delicious and filling.
Oh—one quick tip, since apples and older blenders aren’t really friends, microwave your chopped apple for two minutes first to soften it up. This will help everything come together so the smoothie has the right texture and isn’t gritty or chunky. Want your “pie” to be cold? Just throw in a couple of ice cubes.

I didn’t make my usual blueberry smoothie this morning because I was craving something a little different – actually something more dessert-like.
